The Brazilian subsidiary of Israeli company Elbit Systems has formed a joint venture company with Embraer to develop technologies in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), avionics and simulators in Brazil.

While Embraer Defesa e Segurança SA will own majority stake in the Brasilia-based new company, Harpia Sistemas SA, 49 per cent will be owned by AEL Sistemas SA.

Additionally, Embraer Defesa has acquired a 25 per cent interest in AEL, one of the suppliers of systems for the turboprop Tucano basic trainer and the subsonic fighter AMX, aircraft manufactured by Embraer in the 1980s and 1990s.

Currently, AEL provides the avionics for the turboprop light attack and advanced training Super Tucano and the F-5M fighter used by the Brazilian Air Force.

Elbit’s US subsidiary, Elbit Systems of America, has also been awarded a contract to supply Boeing with the CV-22 Color Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) for the Air Force Special Operations Command. The HMD is based on the Elbit Systems ANVIS/HUD system in use in all the military aviation agencies of the US.
