On being requested by the Civil Administration in Lalitpur and Paricha, Army columns and helicopters were moved in to rescue villagers stranded due to floods in Betwa River in Jhansi region on 29 July 2013.
On a request from Mr O P Verma, District Magistrate, Lalitpur received at 02.00 PM on 29 July 2013 the Army mobilized one column of two officers and 35 jawans and two Army helicopters to rescue nine villagers stranded in Kandhari Kalan village near Sukma-Dukma dam. All nine stranded villagers were rescued by 04:30 PM.
20 villagers were marooned in islands formed by the flooded Betwa River in the area of Paricha near Jhansi. The district administration requested for Army assistance and Army mobilized one column of three officers and 37 jawans and three helicopters. Using boats and helicopters, the Army column successfully rescued all 20 stranded villagers by 05: 30 PM.
Swift mobilization and rapid action by the Army Columns led to all 29 stranded villagers being evacuated to safety. The civil administration derequisitioned the Army after the rescue was over.
