After Independence, the GGBG became the President’s Body Guards on January 26, 1950, when India became a Republic. The first Commandant of the regiment was Lt Col Thakur Govind Singh and his Adjutant was Shibzada Yakub Singh, who later decided to join Pakistan Army. After the division of other assets of the regiment, when it came to gold plated buggey of the Viceroy, both India and Pakistan wanted it. To decide the fate of the buggey, Col. Singh and Sahibzada Yakub Singh tossed a coin and India got the buggey. Post Independence, the PBG saw action in all the major wars. In the 1962 Sino-Indian War, the PBG armoured cars were the first ones to be airlifted to Chusul. It participated in Operation Ablaze in the Indo-Pak War in 1965. A group of one JCO and nine ORs of PBG is always deployed on the Siachen glacier. This group, called the Siachen Party, operates as a reinforcement party working at different altitudes ranging from 21,000 to 22,900 feet.

  1. A PRESIDENT WHO AS SUPREME CDR OF THE ARMED FORCES DOES NOT WANT TO OR MEET THE ARMED FORCES VETERENS TO HEAR THEIR PROBLEMS DOES NOT DESERVE THE HONOUR . THE TAXPAYERS MONEY MUST NOT BE WASTED ON OLD COLONIAL GRANDEUR CERMONIES AND CELEBERATIONS . DISBAND THE 61ST CAVALRY FROM PRESIDENT ESTATE AND TRANSFER THE HORSES AND OFFICERS TO TRAINING ACADEMIES WITH TENURES OF KARGILL AND SAICHEN THROWN IN FOR MAINTAINING FIGHTING FITNESS .

  2. What a farce to have horsemen guarding the President of India. Also, what a waste of public money.
To permit such people to allow the ‘Right of the line’ position during ceremonial positions is criminal. Let us stop this drama as soon as possible.
