Built by the Portuguese in 1617, and facing the Arabian Sea this wonderful bastion on red laterite is located in Goa. It was a forward outpost for the defence of Portuguese occupied territory in Goa. The fort was raided time and again, mainly by the Marathas. The Portuguese finally deserted it in 1892. Only the perimeter walls of the fort are now remnants of its glorious past.
