The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GoC-in-C) Northern Command of the Indian Army has floated a global tender with a Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting bids from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) for procuring miniature Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Mini-UAVs) for gathering intelligence and carrying out reconnaissance of areas along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and the Sino-Indian border. This has been initiated by the frequent ceasefire violations along the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

The fleet of Mini-UAVs will serve as electronic eyes for the forces deployed in the highly sensitive areas of Jammu & Kashmir and will also be employed for specialised counter terrorist operations in the area. The requirement of Mini-UAVs has become urgent on account of the fact that the LOC and the international border have become hot and active with frequent ceasefire violations, infiltration, attacks on forward posts especially in the last few months. Pakistani troops have violated the border truce more than 130 times along the LOC, the highest in past eight years.
