The 49th Paris Air Show taking place at Le Bourget, Paris June 20 – 26, offers the biggest showcase for Israel’s Aerospace and Defense (A&D) industries. Israel is participating in this biennial event for the 25th time. The Israeli national pavilion organized by the Israel’s Export and International Cooperation Institute (IEICI) is the fifth largest national pavilion at the Paris Air Show, ranked after France the USA, Italy and the UK and preceding Germany, Russia, Canada, Belgium and Spain.

IEICI is leading this impressive display of technology, industrial prowess and scientific capability, hosting 15 of Israel’s leading aerospace and defense industries, specialists and subcontractors. IEICI invested six million shekels ( 1,7 mil $) in the new pavilion, which spreads over several locations, including the traditional pavilion building, a new center located inside exhibit Hall 3 and a large outdoor display. In addition to providing a display area and management, IEICI is also facilitating high level meetings with international companies including EADS, Finmeccanica, Boeing, Saab, Lufthansa Technics and others.

Among the participating industries are aircraft and aero-structures manufacturers, electronics and electro-optical system providers, and subcontractors serving the A&D market. Exhibitors include Elbit Systems, Rafael, IAI, Aeronautics, Plasan, Aero-Maoz, Urban Aeronautics, Amit Industries, BlueBird Aero Systems, Controp, Kanfit, MTC, Pentagon 2000, Shimshon Mechanis and Y. Shuster.

The Israeli display will highlight unmanned systems technologies, displayed by a number of industries, including Urban Aeronautics, Elbit Systems. Aeronautics, BlueBird and IAI. In addition, some of the subcontractors providing key elements for aircraft and unmanned systems will also display their offerings.Unmanned Systems Technologies

Aeronautics Defense Systems will unveil its new Orbiter 3 mini-UAV at the airshow. This advanced, electrically powered mini-UAV carries an advanced, ultra-light EO multisensor payload developed by Controp, comprising a day, night and laser designator systems. As one of the largest mini-UAVs in its category, Orbiter 3 has a mission endurance of seven hours. Bluebird Aerosystems will also display mini UAVs of different categories, among them the MicroB, designed for covert missions, and the combat-proven Spylite. The company also offers a larger, electrically-powered mini-UAV called Bumerang, enabling 10 hour mission endurance, using fuel cell power technology. Bluebird also offers miniature, lightweight stabilized EO payloads designed to support special applications, including mapping services. Urban Aeronautics will display center on the progress of their flying ambulance project unmanned aircraft suited among others for evacuation of wounded from the battlefield A prototype of the aircraft has been in flight testing since the end of 2009. The display at Urban Aeronautics will include technical data and images from recent hover tests. Controp, specializing in EO systems will unveil the new T-STAMP stabilized EO multi-sensor payload. The company will also highlight land-based EO surveillance systems covering large areas, designed for border, coastal and homeland security applications. The growing use of electrical UAVs is increasing the demand for power sources, batteries, chargers and fuel cells. A specialist in this field is Amit Industries, showing advanced power solutions for UAV applications.

New Sensors, Command & Control Systems Increase Intelligence Dominance

The Israeli pavilion provides insight into new, evolving capabilities of intelligence gathering, enabled by next generation electro-optical systems developed for aeronautical applications. Elbit Systems is displaying a full -scale model of a new laser-based countermeasure system called C-MUSIC, designed to equip commercial airliners, protecting them against heat-seeking missile attacks. The company also highlights a new, hyper-spectral sensor, enabling detection and identification of camouflaged, hidden targets. The company will also highlight a new concept of ‘Persistent Wide Area Surveillance’ (PWAS), integrating passive surveillance by unattended sensors, observations, UAVs, shared through an advanced network, enabling remotely controlled assets to monitor and dominate a large area. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems will also highlight PWAS, as part of its new ‘system of systems’ concept, integrating sensors, sharing and fusing intelligence and data processing systems ,supporting regional and theater level.
