The usual trouble spots in J&..K, Chhamb and Punch I for example, also became the scenes of some hard fought battles. Further north in Ladakh, Major Chewang Rinchen added a bar to his MVC through a series of valiant deeds in the Shyok valley. It is not possible to recall and recount all the praiseworthy deeds of units and their soldiers, However, two more acts of heroism deserve a special mention. Sepoy Pandurang Salunkhe of 15 Maratha Light Infantry was just about 21 years of age when he made the supreme sacrifice on 6 December 1971. Sepoy Anusuya Prasad of to MAHAR was even younger, 18 years and a few months, when he laid down his life on 30 November 1971. In recognition of their bravery and sacrifices they were both awarded MVC posthumously. They both died young to live on forever.
