Praising the Indian defence forces, Prime Minister said that strong armed forces were necessary for an atmosphere of peace, amity, harmony and brotherhood in the country, and this was the foundation on which India would achieve new heights of development. Therefore, Shri Modi said, he accorded highest priority to modernization of the defence forces. Modi also said the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness of the defence forces was an inspiration for all Indians. Prime Minister reiterated his Government`s commitment to building a National War Memorial, in memory of soldiers who had laid down their lives for the motherland. He also paid homage at the martyrs memorial at Badami Bagh cantonment.

Senior Chinese military official met Gen Bikram Singh. Gen. Fan Changlong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), met with Chief of the Indian Army Gen. Bikram Singh, who is also chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Indian Armed Forces, in Beijing on July 3, 2014. Gen. Bikram Singh expressed that India attaches great importance to the India-China relations and is willing to deepen the pragmatic cooperation in various fields and strengthen communication at various levels with China, which is important in keeping peace and tranquility in the border areas.

Chinese Navy Ships at Visakhapatnam
Chinese Navy Ships at Visakhapatnam. Two ships of the PLA Navy, Zhenghe and Weifang, with Rear Admiral Han Xiaohu, Commander PLAN Training Ship Task Group, and Rear Admiral Li Jianjun, Assistant Chief of Staff and Political Commissar of PLA Dalian Naval Academy embarked, arrived Visakhapatnam today, 17 May, on a four-day maiden visit to the Eastern Naval Command. The visit will encompass interaction between personnel of both the Navies in various professional, cultural, social and sports events. Apart from engaging in friendly basketball and football matches with the Eastern Fleet teams, the PLA Navy personnel will also visit places of interest in Visakhapatnam. The Admirals of the PLA Navy are scheduled to call on Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
