Eurocopter’s EC175 sets new climb records

Eurocopter’s EC175 which opens new standards for the medium-sized twin-engine helicopter market. The two records for the EC175 are: time-to-climb to an altitude of 6,000 meters, performed in 6 minutes, 54 seconds; and time-to-climb to 3,000 meters, achieved in 3 minutes 10 seconds.

Further progressing the Indo - Oman Air Force to Air Force Defence co-operation, a meeting was held in the office of Chief of Air Staff at Vayu Bhavan between HE Mohamed Bin Basser Al-Rasby, Secretary General of Defence Ministry of Defence, Oman and Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Chief of Air Staff (CAS).

As a prelude to the Passing Out Parade on 14 Dec 13, a Multi Activity Display showcasing various aspects of military training imparted to the Gentlemen Cadets, coupled with interesting and awe inspiring acts of combat skills and adventure, was staged in the Rajyavardhan Stadium of Officers Training Academy, Gaya. A key aim of training at the Academy is to inculcate a sense of adventure, in addition to developing physical fitness. The display showcased the skills that the Gentlemen Cadets learnt during the course of their training.

Eurocopter demonstrates EC225 helicopter’s capabilities for the offshore oil and gas industry

Eurocopter Canada Ltd. is showcasing the EC225 helicopter in St. John’s this week to demonstrate the rotorcraft’s features and capabilities for the offshore oil and gas community in Canada’s Newfoundland and Labrador province. The helicopter is in St. John’s for three days to highlight its ideal suitability for use as a crew transport aircraft, and in search and rescue missions for offshore operations. Flight opportunities will be provided for more than 30 representatives of the oil and gas sector, along with members of key industry associations. The EC225 is the latest evolution of the company’s Super Puma rotorcraft family and benefits from the experience accumulated by almost 1,000 aircraft of this family delivered to some 100 operators. The EC225 came to Canada (Iqaluit) for extreme cold weather testing in winter 2004 and 2007.

IAF C 130 J leaves on a humanitarian aid mission to Philippines

In a display of solidarity with the citizens of Hurricane ravaged Philippines, Government of India today despatched relief package comprising of medicines, hygiene and chemicals, tentage, blankets, tarpaulins and ready to eat meals ex Armed Forces stocks by an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft to Mactan. This will help meet the urgent need for life-saving medical care, food supplies and construction of temporary shelters in this hour of need in the face of a serious humanitarian crisis. The Eastern Coast of Philippines has been severely battered by the cyclone HAIYAN recently where over 10,000 people are feared dead and about 4 million people have been affected. A similar aid was provided to Philippines by India in 2006 as well. Plans are underway to further supplement the effort and provide additional relief material through an Indian Naval Ship that will set sail at the earliest.

The Indian Navy inducted the Hawk 132, a fourth generation Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft, on 06 Nov 13 at an impressive ceremony held at Naval Air Station INS Dega. Admiral DK Joshi, Chief of the Naval Staff, who was the chief guest at the event, inducted the aircraft in the presence of Vice Admiral Anil Chopra PVSM AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.

27 October is a historic day, not only for the Infantry but for the entire Indian Army. It was on this day, 65 years ago, that the first Infantryman from the FIRST battalion of The SIKH Regiment landed at Srinagar air field in Kashmir Valley to chase away Pakistani invaders. The enemy was thrown back and the valley was saved. It was the first glorious action undertaken by the Indian Army in the post independence era. Therefore, 27 October is celebrated as Infantry Day throughout India.

Airbus Military A400M development fleet makes 2000th flight

Airbus Military’s five-strong development fleet of A400M new generation airlifters has completed its 2,000th flight. The aircraft that made the milestone flight, a routine flight-test sortie from Manching to Toulouse on 18 October, was the 5th aircraft, known as MSN6 and nicknamed Grizzly 5. Since the first flight of the A400M on 11 December 2009, the development fleet has clocked up 5,665 flight hours.
