IAF Mi-17V5 Airlifts crashed Pawan Hans Helicopter

As part of the ongoing ‘Op-Rahat’ the IAF airlifted a Pawan Hans helicopter out of Harshil today. The Pawan Hans helicopter which crashed on Harshil helipad on 28 June 2013 was ‘under-slung’ and airlifted to Dehradun via Dharasu in delicately handled operation by a Mi-17 V5 helicopter of the IAF.

An Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) “CGS Barracuda” for Government of Republic of Mauritius was launched from Kolkata-based Defence Public Sector Undertaking, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), which is the first defence export order for a warship being built in India.

On being requested by the Civil Administration in Lalitpur and Paricha, Army columns and helicopters were moved in to rescue villagers stranded due to floods in Betwa River in Jhansi. Swift mobilization and rapid action by the Army Columns led to all 29 stranded villagers being evacuated to safety.

First C 17 Touches Down in India

First C 17 Touches Down in India

18 Jun 2013 saw the first of the ten Boeing C 17 Globemaster III, ordered from the United States, touchdown in India, at Hindan airbase. With the training of the aircrew and the ground crew being conducted by the United States Air Force (USAF), the Indian Air Force accepted the delivery of the aircraft on 11 Jun 2013 at Long Beach, California. Received by Air Marshal S Sukumar, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff at the Hindan airbase, where it would be based. The aircraft will enhance the operational potential of the IAF with its payload carriage and performance capability and would augment the strategic reach of the Nation during disaster relief or any similar mission. The induction of C 17 is a major milestone in the modernization drive of the IAF.
