Two days from now INS Vikramaditya will join the Indian Navy! Defence Minister Shri AK Antony will be commissioning Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier ‘Vikramaditya’ at Severodvinsk in the Russian Federation on 16 November 2013.
IAF C 130 J leaves on a humanitarian aid mission to Philippines
In a display of solidarity with the citizens of Hurricane ravaged Philippines, Government of India today despatched relief package comprising of medicines, hygiene and chemicals, tentage, blankets, tarpaulins and ready to eat meals ex Armed Forces stocks by an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft to Mactan. This will help meet the urgent need for life-saving medical care, food supplies and construction of temporary shelters in this hour of need in the face of a serious humanitarian crisis. The Eastern Coast of Philippines has been severely battered by the cyclone HAIYAN recently where over 10,000 people are feared dead and about 4 million people have been affected. A similar aid was provided to Philippines by India in 2006 as well. Plans are underway to further supplement the effort and provide additional relief material through an Indian Naval Ship that will set sail at the earliest.
Indian Navy inducted its first Advance Jet Trainer (AJT) Hawk 132
The Indian Navy inducted the Hawk 132, a fourth generation Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft, on 06 Nov 13 at an impressive ceremony held at Naval Air Station INS Dega. Admiral DK Joshi, Chief of the Naval Staff, who was the chief guest at the event, inducted the aircraft in the presence of Vice Admiral Anil Chopra PVSM AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
Indian Army celebrated Infantry Day
27 October is a historic day, not only for the Infantry but for the entire Indian Army. It was on this day, 65 years ago, that the first Infantryman from the FIRST battalion of The SIKH Regiment landed at Srinagar air field in Kashmir Valley to chase away Pakistani invaders. The enemy was thrown back and the valley was saved. It was the first glorious action undertaken by the Indian Army in the post independence era. Therefore, 27 October is celebrated as Infantry Day throughout India.

Airbus Military A400M development fleet makes 2000th flight
Airbus Military’s five-strong development fleet of A400M new generation airlifters has completed its 2,000th flight. The aircraft that made the milestone flight, a routine flight-test sortie from Manching to Toulouse on 18 October, was the 5th aircraft, known as MSN6 and nicknamed Grizzly 5. Since the first flight of the A400M on 11 December 2009, the development fleet has clocked up 5,665 flight hours.

General Bikram Singh with Nepalese Army Chief
Indian and Nepalese Armies crossed another historic milestone when a battalion from each of the countries took part in a combined training programme conducted to ensure inter operability of both Armies in the disaster prone region of Uttarakhand. The Indian Army Chief, Gen Bikram Singh and the Nepalese Army Chief, Gen Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana witnessed the combined training exercise presently underway in Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand Lt Gen Rajan Bakhshi, Army Commander Central Command was present on the occasion.

IAF Mi-17V5 Airlifts crashed Pawan Hans Helicopter
As part of the ongoing ‘Op-Rahat’ the IAF airlifted a Pawan Hans helicopter out of Harshil today. The Pawan Hans helicopter which crashed on Harshil helipad on 28 June 2013 was ‘under-slung’ and airlifted to Dehradun via Dharasu in delicately handled operation by a Mi-17 V5 helicopter of the IAF.
GRSE launches Mauritius Offshore Patrol Vessel
An Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) “CGS Barracuda” for Government of Republic of Mauritius was launched from Kolkata-based Defence Public Sector Undertaking, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), which is the first defence export order for a warship being built in India.
Army rescues villagers stranded due to floods in Jhansi
On being requested by the Civil Administration in Lalitpur and Paricha, Army columns and helicopters were moved in to rescue villagers stranded due to floods in Betwa River in Jhansi. Swift mobilization and rapid action by the Army Columns led to all 29 stranded villagers being evacuated to safety.
