Battle Honours of Rajputana Rifles
The battle of Asal Uttar
SlideShow | ThumbnailsThe battle of Asal Uttar was fought by 18 RAJ RIF (Saurashtra) near Khem Karan, in Punjab sector in the first week of Sep 1965. The Battalion had occupied hastily prepared defences in the hedgehog manner and held on to them even when some of the localities had been overrun by the enemy armour. Under the inspiring leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Reghubir Singh, the men then use all their anti tank weapons to knock out the enemy tanks that had penetrated the defence. What appeared to be a near defeat had dramatically been changed by the Battalion into an unqualified victory to deserve the battle honour ‘Asal Uttar’.
