Vice Admiral Ram Rutberg, Commander-In-Chief of Israeli Navy is on an official visit to India
Vice Admiral Ram Rutberg, Commander-In-Chief of Israeli Navy is on an official visit to India from 24 to 27 Aug 15. The Admiral paid homage at Amar Jawan Jyoti earlier in the day and was thereafter received by Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff at South Block lawns, New Delhi and accorded a 50 men Guard of Honour. During the day, Vice Admiral Ram Rutberg had discussions with Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral RK Dhowan to explore avenues for greater cooperation between the two navies. Vice Admiral Ram Rutberg also met the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff in addition to other MoD officials. Vice Admiral Rutberg is also scheduled to travel to Mumbai and Kochi to visit various ships and shore establishments in Headquarters, Western and Southern Naval Command respectively. The visit by Vice Admiral Ram Rutberg will further consolidate Indian Navy – Israeli Navy cooperation especially with respect to India acquiring high end technology through the recently launched ‘Make in India’ initiative. Both the countries can benefit and reap strategic advantages through such cooperation. India-Israel relations date back to 17 Sep 1950, when India recognised formation of Israel. Since the up-gradation of relations in 1992, the defence cooperation has been one of the main pillars of bilateral engagement between the two nations. India imports critical defence technologies from Israel. In addition, there are regular exchanges between the Armed Forces and defence personnel. The visit to India by Vice Admiral Ram Rutberg is in continuation of such high level defence exchanges.

Wreath Laying Ceremony of Brig Mohammad Usman, MVC
A wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the death anniversary of Brigadier Mohammad Usman, MVC was organised at Jamia Millia Islamia University Cemetery on 03 Jul 2015. Several Retired and serving officers including Lieutenant General NS Ghei, Commandant, National Defence College and Colonel of the Parachute Regiment attended the function. Late Brigadier Mohammad Usman, also known as the “Saviour of Naushera” , was responsible for the recapture of Jhangar & Naushera (Jammu & Kashmir) during 1947-48 war with Pakistan. The gallant officer attained martyrdom on 03 Jul 1948. Brigadier Mohammad Usman set an example of personal courage, exceptional qualities of leadership and devotion to duty in the highest tradition of the Indian Army and was thus, rightfully honoured with the Mahavir Chakra.

Bernhard Gerwert, CEO, Airbus Defence and Space, calls on Prime Minister Narendra Modi
They discussed various projects in India, in the aerospace, defence and civil aviation sectors. Mr. Gerwert recalled the Prime Minister's visit to the Airbus manufacturing facility in Toulouse, in April, and the positive atmosphere and interest generated as a result of it. He expressed Airbus's keen interest in becoming a partner in the "Make in India" initiative, through a cluster approach with regional partners. The Prime Minister welcomed the interest shown by Airbus, in India.
NCC Girls’ Expedition Flagged in after Scaling Mt Deo-Tibba
Officiating Director General NCC Maj Gen C Prakash flagged-in the NCC Girl Expedition team to Mount Deo-Tibba (19688 ft) in Himachal Pradesh at HQ DG NCC, here today. He congratulated the 31 girl cadets and 19 support staff for their successful ascent to the peak on 13 & 14 Jun 15. The Team Leader Col Gaurav Karki handed over the Expedition Flag to the DG during the ceremony. The all girls’ expedition was the first expedition to climb the mount in the current year. The weather conditions made the climb challenging and tough. The successful climb to Mount Deo-Tibba (which in Hindu mythology means the assembly place of the Gods) by the 50 member team, through difficult terrain, inclement and unpredictable weather conditions, was a splendid success. In his address, the officiating DG NCC congratulated the Cadets and NCC Staff and mentioned that this is a precursor to the next Expedition to Mount Trishul in Aug-Sep 2015. He said this exposure would hold the team in good stead for the ultimate mission of scaling Mount Everest scheduled in May next year.

Lt Gen Philip Campose, Vice Chief of Army Staff launched a new website, www.joinindianarmy.nic.in, of the Directorate General of Recruiting for selection of Officers, Junior Commission Officers (JCOs) & Other Ranks (OR) from the precincts of the South Block today. This dynamic website is keeping in pace with the automation of Recruitment in the Army and will synergise and enhance the selection procedures. Candidates from all across India will have access to information about career options in the Army, make suitable choices and apply online. Kiosks based Central Govt and State Govt Common Service Centres (CSC) will enable candidates to apply from the remotest areas. The facilities of the website for applying as Officers, JCOs and OR will be available with effect from 01 Jul 2015.
French Naval Ships Dixmude and Aconit Visit Visakhapatnam
French Naval Ships Dixmude (Landing Platform Dock) and Aconit (Frigate) are on a visit to Visakhapatnam from 16 to 22 Jun 15. Rear Admiral Antoine Beaussant, ALINDIEN (Admiral-in-charge of the Maritime Zone of the Indian Ocean), Captain Pierre de Briancon Commanding Officer FNS Dixmude and Captain Jean-Pierre Helluy, Commanding Officer FNS Aconit called on Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command on 16 Jun 15. During the visit, various operational and social interactions with Eastern Naval Command have been planned. These include amphibious demonstration, sharing of expertise on Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR), exchange of Non-Combatant Evacuation procedures, mutual ship visits, industry exhibition and sports fixtures.
US Secretary of Defence Visits Eastern Naval Command
Dr. Ashton Carter, the US Secretary of Defence, accompanied by Mrs Stephanie Carter and a thirteen member US delegation, visited Visakhapatnam today, 02 June 15. During the visit, the Secretary of Defence interacted with Vice Admiral BK Verma, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command and held discussions on issues of common interest. On completion, crest and gifts were exchanged with the visiting dignitary. Later, the Secretary accompanied by the US delegation visited the indigenous stealth frigate, INS Sahyadri, prior to their departure to New Delhi. During the visit, Mrs Stephanie Carter also interacted with the members of Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) and was apprised on various welfare activities undertaken by NWWA for the Naval Community.
Raksha Mantri Visits Army Posts in Rajouri Area
On the second day of his official visit to the State of Jammu & Kashmir, the Honorable Raksha Mantri Shri Manohar Parrikar visited the forward areas in the Rajouri Sector, today. The Minister was accompanied by Gen Dalbir Singh, COAS and Lt Gen DS Hooda, Northern Army Commander. During his visit to the forward posts, the Minister was briefed by Lt Gen KH Singh, Corps Commander of the White Knight Corps on the overall security situation and other important issues pertaining to strategy for the coming months. He also interacted with the local Commanders and troops deployed in the area who apprised him on the prevailing security dynamics on the Line of Control.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Mirage -2000 lands at Yamuna Expressway
IAF's Mirage -2000 lands at Yamuna Expressway. The IAF has been considering the use of national highways for emergency landing by fighter aircraft. This capability was demonstrated by IAF on May 21, 2015 by a Mirage-2000 aircraft which got airborne from one of the IAF bases in Central India. All facilities like make shift Air Traffic Control, safety services, rescue vehicles, bird clearance parties and other requirements were set up by IAF personnel from Air Force Station Agra. Thereafter, in coordination with the District Magistrate and SP of Agra and Mathura, necessary tie up was carried out for activation of the selected stretch. The aircraft made a practice approach on the highway, coming down to a height of 100 mtrs before landing off the next approach. The operations were conducted with active support from the government of Uttar Pradesh, Yamuna Expressway Authority, Toll authorities of JP Infratech and Civil Police. The IAF has plans to activate more such stretches on highways in the future.
