Indian Naval Ship Sumitra was awarded a Special Search and Rescue (SAR) Award by Chairman, National Maritime Search and Rescue (NMSAR) Board during the XVI NMSAR Board meeting on 10 July 2017 at New Delhi for saving lives of 33 Bangladeshi fishermen. The SAR effort undertaken by INS Sumitra in adverse sea conditions post Cyclone ‘Mora’ demonstrate the resolve and capability of the Indian Navy towards assisting mariners and fishermen beyond boundaries.

HAL Signs MoU with Government; Aims Higher Revenue

HAL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the financial year 2017-18 with Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Delhi yesterday. The annual MoU was signed between Mr Ashok Kumar Gupta, Secretary, Department of Defence Production and Mr T Suvarna Raju, CMD-HAL. The MoU outlines targets on various performance parameters of the Company during the year 2017-18. The revenue from operations has been targeted at Rs. 17,900 crores, the highest ever. The Company has also laid specific emphasis on Capacity building, Modernization, Solar Power plants, aiming to achieve capital expenditure of Rs.1300 crores. The Company’s thrust is on Make-in-India projects such as Hindustan Turboprop Trainer-40 (HTT-40), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and Light Utility Helicopter (LUH). Among the important milestones targeted to be achieved include clearance by DGCA for civil version of Do-228 aircraft, Jaguar DARIN-III Upgrade and Mirage 2000 Upgrade. The Company also aims to achieve 5% increase in indigenous content through indigenisation under Make-in-India initiatives.

Myanmar Defence Services Chief visits Tata Motors, Sanand Plant

A high-level delegation led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief Defence Services, Myanmar visited the Tata Motors manufacturing plant at Sanand, Ahmedabad. This visit is part of his 8-day visit to India aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations. Mr. Neeraj Agarwal (Sanand Plant Head, Tata Motors) and Mr. Rudrarup Maitra (Head International Business, Tata Motors) welcomed the Senior General and the delegation. During this visit, Tata Motors showcased it’s product range and technological capabilities to the delegation and gave a tour of the manufacturing plant which is one of the most modern automobile manufacturing facilities in the country. The delegation and especially the Senior General evinced a keen interest in the Tata Motors product range and the technology and process capabilities at Tata Motors. Senior officials from Embassy of Myanmar in New Delhi, Embassy of Indian in Yangon, the Indian Army and the Gujarat government were also part of the visiting delegation.

Army Releases Book on Rashtriya Rifles

General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), on 27 March 2017 at South Block, New Delhi, released the book ‘Home of the Brave’ on the history of Indian Army’s Counter Insurgency Force, the Rashtriya Rifles (RR). The book is authored by Mr Nitin A Gokhale, Defence & Security Analyst and Brig S K Chatterji (Retired). The event of release of the book was attended by the COAS, Director General of the Rashtriya Rifles, other senior officers from Directorate General of the Rashtriya Rifles along with the authors. Home of the Brave traces the early history of the RR, its organization, including its raising and subsequent deployment in Punjab, the North East and in Jammu & Kashmir. The RR, a formidable Counter Insurgency Force, has won many laurels in the operations. In addition to fulfilling its primary mandate of securing the Nation, the Force has also conducted several softer measures to win hearts and minds of the people- a critical and valuable practice that the Indian Army has embraced. The book also reflects upon the role of the RR in strengthening the professionalism of the Indian Army and military ethics and values throughout its rank and file. Home of the Brave will serve as an authentic record of achievements of the RR for all the Army units and Army training institutions. For defence policy planners, research scholars and military historians, this book provides factual and well chronicled information.

COAS Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa flies the LCA Tejas at Aero India 2017

COAS Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa flies the LCA Tejas at Aero India 2017. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa PVSM AVSM YSM VM ADC took to the skies in Yelahanka over Bengaluru city in the indigenously designed and developed aircraft LCA Mk I (Tejas) at 1645 hrs today. The Air Chief Marshal flew with the Principal Director Test Flight of the National Flight Test Centre Air Vice Marshal AP Singh. During the sortie the Chief of Air Staff was demonstrated the operational capability of the aircraft which included agility, manoeuvrability and advanced interface of avionics. The profile included general handling, air to air and ground attack patterns. The Air Chief Marshal was impressed by its capability expressing his faith in the programme. The Tejas aircraft has achieved Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) and has been inducted into the Indian Air Force.
