Seven new radars to be set up in Lakshadweep to boost coastal security: Antony

Indian Defence Minister A K Antony says, seven new radars will be set up in different islands of Lakshadweep to prevent illegal entry into the country’s territorial waters. He said, the radars will be operational next year.

Defence_Minister_AK_AntonyInaugurating the new Coast Guard District Headquarters at Kavarathi on Friday, Mr Antony called upon maritime forces to remain ever vigilant in view of the presence of pirates in the country’s vicinity.

He said, the government has put in place numerous measures to augment coastal security and added that more military assets will be created in various islands in the country’s territorial waters.

The Defence Minister said, another Coast Guard station will be established in Amini and the government has accorded sanction to establish an air enclave at Minicoy.
