After Egypt, things are rapidly getting out of control for the United States in Pakistan, where , after the Raymond Davis Incident the US has threatened to end Diplomatic Relations with Pakistan. Time Magazine is saying the Raymond Davis incident could bring down the Pakistani Govt.

IDR-Intelligence-BriefMr. Hosni Mubarak has gone, but the main lesson to be learnt from the events in Egypt it is that if 250,000 people come out in procession, they can bring down a government.

The real reason for Obamas worry can be gauged from the fact that the circulation on Jihadi Newspapers in Pakistan is 3.5 Million. That number is in excess of 3 times the number of troops in Hitlers Waffen SS at the height of Hitlers power, just before he invaded Russia in June 1941.

Oil Prices may therefore correct lower as the immediate threat to the Suez Canal and the Sumed Pipeline is now no longer an issue.

Mubarak’s departure is however very worrying not just for Arabic Monarchies but also for countries such as the United States and its allies within NATO who are now afraid that Radical groups and Islamic Fundamentalists could overthrow the governments of their allies .

The main problem is not in Egypt anymore but in Pakistan where things may be rapidly getting out of control for the United States.

Egypt is a Children’s birthday party compared to Pakistan and it is for this reason that President Obama / Hillary Clinton have been very measured in their support for the protesters in Cairo’s, Tahrir Square.

The real reason for Obama’s worry can be gauged from the fact that the circulation on Jihadi Newspapers in Pakistan is 3.5 Million. That number is in excess of 3 times the number of troops in Hitler’s Waffen SS at the height of Hitlers power, just before he invaded Russia in June 1941.

The Raymond Davis Incident

The Raymond Davis Incident has put the US – Pak relationship to its most severe test in the last decade.

Raymond Davis fired 7 bullets into the 2 men and then got out of his car to photograph them right in the middle of a busy street.

Davis is a CIA agent who shot and killed 2 ISI operatives who tried to corner him. The US is saying that he is on a diplomatic Visa and therefore has Diplomatic Immunity … he therefore must be returned to the US.

Pakistan has however charged Davis with Murder and ABC News has reported that the US has now threatened to end its diplomatic relations with Pakistan, shut down all US Consulates in Pakistan and expel Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani.

The Time Magazine is saying that the Raymond Davis Incident could bring down the Pakistani Government.

The New York Times reports a milder version, saying that Hillary Clinton called Asif Zardari to tell him that Mr. Davis’s arrest has threatened the foundations of the strategic relationship between the two countries.

“¦If 250,000 Protestors on Cairos Tahrir Square could get Hosni Mubarak to leave, the Americans are probably wondering what they will do if just a fraction of Pakistans  3.5 million jihadi newspaper customers come onto the streets.

Raymond Davis, it appears, is no ordinary defence contractor. He is a crack shot and a professional assassin. He fired 7 bullets into the 2 men and then got out of his car to photograph them right in the middle of a busy street. He is extremely fluent in Pushtu and Urdu. He was carrying a telescope, a GPS, a camera and several memory cards with him when he was arrested.

It is no wonder that the US is so keen to ensure his release before the Pakistani interrogators get to him.

US – Pakistan Relationship … Increasingly Fragile

The above story shows just how fragile the US – Pakistan relationship really is.

Things have moved very fast in just 1 week.

President Obama must be a very worried man. If 250,000 Protestors on Cairo’s Tahrir Square could get Hosni Mubarak to leave, the Americans are probably wondering what they will do if just a fraction of Pakistan’s  3.5 million jihadi newspaper customers come onto the streets.

Any way you look at it. US – Pakistani relations are headed for trouble. It could get bad if Raymond Davis in interrogated. If Zardari capitulates and releases Davis … it could get worse.

No impact on oil price … but if the Pakistani Govt falls to extremists The US and NATO may have very few options to secure Pakistani Nuclear Weapons.
