Nexter and CILAS announces cooperation on laser weapons

During the EUROSATORY exhibition, Nexter Systems and CILAS announced the signing of a letter of intent for joint research work on the development of carrier-based laser weapons.

This is an opportunity for Nexter, designer and manufacturer of complex weapons systems with high technical added value, to study the implementation of laser weapons, and for CILAS, producer of laser sources for the Defence sector, to apply its cutting-edge technology.

Nexter Systems

Nexter applies its expertise in land defence systems to meet the needs of the French army and other forces internationally. The scope of its business includes the supply of weapons systems and munitions for Army, Air Force, Navy and law enforcement applications. In 2013 Nexter reported revenue of Euros 787 million, of which 18% were allocated to Research & Development. The range of products offered by Nexter includes: Artillery systems CAESAR®, TRAJAN and, 105LG, Leclerc main battle tank, VBCI Infantry combat vehicle, ARAVIS® highly protected armoured vehicle, TITUS®, Nexter new armored 6×6, BONUS smart ammunition, all backed up by customer service, support and recycling.

CILAS

CILAS, since 1966, is engaged in the development of high-performance lasers for scientific, industrial and defence application. CILAS made a 33M€ turnover in 2013, 58% of which in exports. Its R&D essentially focuses on high power continuous lasers and high energy pulsed lasers. CILAS also develops a range of equipment integrating laser technologies for defence & security: laser range finders, laser target designators, and sniper & sight detectors.
