Defence expert Bharat Verma says 12th March attack on the Srinagar CRPF camp is a sign that jihadi forces are now again focusing on Kashmir as they are freed from the Afghan conflict, thanks to the continuing withdrawal of Western forces there. The defence expert Bharat Verma claims that India could face many such attacks in future if it doesn’t tighten the security as Jihadis are concentrating on Kashmir once again with an aim to destabilise India.

  1. I agree with Mr. Verma’s assertion that the Jihadi forces from Pakistan will increase their activities in Indian Kashmir as the war in Afghanistan nears its inevitable end. The real issue, however, is not what Pakistan does, but what India has not done over the last 60 years to safeguard India’s territorial integrity. The root cause of the current mess in Kashmir is Article 370 which is a dagger pointed at the heart of India. With the false status given to Kashmir by Nehru-Gandhian mindset at the time of partition, they have sown the seeds of insurrection which manifests in different forms today at the behest of the enemy across the border. No matter how you slice and dice, until Kashmir is integrated into the Indian Union, the law and order situation there will remain in the hands of a third party, namely, Pakistan. The successive governments in Delhi have opted to ignore the reality becasue to face it required the backbone which the current leaders lack. This “chalta hai”, cannot go on any more, because the stakes are much higher. The Pakistani military has shown remarkable capabilities to launch devastating attacks inside India through it’s terrorism wing, at will. The Indian leaders responsible for the security have failed again and again. The Indian state of Kashmir is the doorway to India’s subcontinental security. It cannot be bartered away. Article 370 cannot be justified any longer to appease a small minority of inhabitants of that region if it threatens the future peace and stability of 1.2 billion Indians. The Indian democracy is accessible to all its citizens including people living in Kashmir. There is no justification to pretend a special status just to appease a religious minority while the nation spends billions guarding the porous borders of Kashmir.
