Capture of Ledigali Hill
SlideShow | ThumbnailsOn 27 Jun 1948, 17 RAJ RIF (Sawai Man), under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Raj Singh, then deployed in Uri sector in J&K, was ordered to capture Ledigali hill feature south of River Jhelum. Attacking up the steep and slippery slopes with grit and determination, the Battalion captured the feature after a fierce fighting that spilled over till the mid¬day of28 Jun 1948. The Battalion then resolutely held on to the position against numerous counter attacks, and earned for the Regiment the first post independence battle honour 'Ledigali'.
